Retro Explorer: a free pixel platformer
Eight hand-built rooms of classic platforming. Each room’s exit stays locked until you grab its trophy; spikes punish a sloppy jump, springs throw you higher than any jump can, and coins hide off the obvious path. Every room is checked by a solver before release, so none of them needs a pixel-perfect jump.
How to play
- Find the trophy in each room — it unlocks the door.
- Reach the door without touching a spike. A death sends you back to the room’s start; it costs time, not the run.
- Hold jump for a full jump, or tap it for a short hop. Springs launch you far higher.
- Beat a room’s par time without dying for a gold medal.
Controls
- Keyboard & mouse
- ← → or A D to move · Space, W or ↑ to jump, hold for height · Esc to pause
- Touchscreen
- Use the pad below the screen; hold jump for a higher jump.
Scoring
Each room is worth 1,000 points, plus 100 for every coin and 500 for a gold medal (250 for silver), minus 150 for each death.
Tips
- Short hops matter as much as full jumps — let go early near low ceilings.
- Coins usually sit on the route you would rather skip. Grab them on a second run.
- Gold needs a clean run: slow down before a hard jump instead of retrying it.
Questions
Is every level possible?
Yes. Every room is checked by an automated solver that runs the game’s own physics — including with a deliberately weaker jump — so none of them needs pixel-perfect input.
How do I get gold medals?
Finish a room under its par time without dying. Silver allows up to 1.6 times par.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. An on-screen pad appears below the game.
